Game Goes Down To The Wire As Reds Lose To Wallingford Cardinals 9U On Final Play

Reds 8U fell to Wallingford Cardinals 9U 20-19 on Thursday at Moses Y Beach Elementary School on the final play of the game. The game was tied at 19 in the bottom of the fifth when Colby B singled, scoring one run.

Reds 8U collected 13 hits and Wallingford Cardinals 9U had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

The Reds got on the board in the top of the first inning after Nick M doubled, scoring two runs, a steal of home scored one run, and Liam S doubled, scoring two runs.

Wallingford Cardinals 9U tied the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to four singles. Wallingford Cardinals 9U tied the game at five on a single by Scott P.

Another double by Nick M gave Reds 8U the lead, 8-5, in the top of the second.

Wallingford Cardinals 9U flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on two hits to take a 10-8 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Logan S that drove in two.

Reds 8U took the lead in the top of the third inning after Liam S walked, Luke F singled, Colin L doubled, and Antonio F singled, each scoring one run.

Wallingford Cardinals 9U scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Colby B drew a walk, scoring one run, Logan S doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs.

Wallingford Cardinals 9U flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 20-19 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a walk by Scott P that drove in two.

Colin L began the game for Reds 8U. They allowed five hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and walking one.

Reds 8U piled up 13 hits in the game. Nick M drove the middle of the lineup, leading Reds 8U with five runs batted in. He went 4-for-4 on the day. Luke F, Liam S, and Antonio F each collected multiple hits for Reds 8U. Reds 8U had patience at the plate, collecting 13 walks for the game. Grant S, Gio B, Dom G, Bryce P, and Antonio F led the team with two free passes each. Antonio F and Nick M each stole multiple bases for Reds 8U. Reds 8U stole nine bases in the game.

Reds 8U will travel to Cheshire Aviators 8U for their next game on Sunday.
