Reds 8U Claw Back, But Fall Just Short Against Newtown

Reds 8U's effort to come back from down seven runs in the second inning came up just short, as they fell 15-14 to Newtown on Monday. Reds 8U closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a walk, a single, a single, a walk, a walk, a walk, a fielder's choice, a single, a steal of home, and a single.

Reds 8U collected nine hits and Newtown had nine in the high-scoring affair.

Newtown got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after #3 singled, scoring one run, and #18 doubled, scoring two runs.

Newtown scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. An error scored one run, #7 singled, scoring two runs, and a steal of home scored two runs.

Reds 8U scored five runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Antonio F grounded out, scoring one run, Oliver T drew a walk, scoring one run, Nick M singled, scoring two runs, and Grant S singled, scoring one run.

Newtown added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after #8 singled, #11 walked, #38 was struck by a pitch, #7 walked, and #2 singled, each scoring one run.

Reds 8U scored five runs on one hit in the top of the fourth inning. Colin L drew a walk, scoring one run, Emelio P drew a walk, scoring one run, Gio B drew a walk, scoring one run, #38 induced Bryce P to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Oliver T singled, scoring one run.

Emelio P began the game for Reds 8U. They allowed five hits and eight runs (two earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking none. #7 started the game for Newtown. They allowed one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking one.

Antonio F went 1-for-3 at the plate as the right fielder led the team with three runs batted in. Luke F, Oliver T, and Nick M each collected two hits for Reds 8U. Reds 8U had patience at the plate, collecting 14 walks for the game. Liam S, Gio B, and Emelio P led the team with two free passes each. Luke F, Liam S, Emelio P, and Nick M each stole multiple bases for Reds 8U. Reds 8U stole 11 bases in the game.
